Lamar Community College (LCC) plays a unique role for the Auger North project and is an essential member of the team that built the case for Auger North in Colorado. While not a research college, LCC will be the host institute for Auger North. They have agreed to donate 5 acres of land in order to build and house the offices, data center, visitor center, and detector outfitting and deployment facility. |
Scientists from around the world met at Lamar Community College in October 2005 and May 2008 to
discuss plans for proposing and building the Auger North observatory. |
|
LCC has hosted several meetings of the Auger scientists since 2003 - the Auger North R&D meeting in October 2005 and most recently an Auger Analysis and Planning meeting in May 2008. The college has provided technical support and space for installation of atmospheric monitoring equipment. LCC is partnering with Auger scientists to start an education and outreach program aimed at the public and school students in southeastern Colorado. This effort will be spearheaded by Brad Thompson, the new LCC Auger Outreach Coordinator. |
